Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced the Canadian government is developing a government-owned investment fund

The fund - which Canadians can invest in directly - will help pay for major infrastructure projects in the country, the prime minister says.

The government will launch the Canada Strong Fund as part of its drive to build trade corridors and develop resource projects to ease the economic squeeze posed by President Trump’s trade policy.

Canada will create its first sovereign wealth fund to provide financing for large infrastructure projects, Prime Minister Mark Carney said.

The new Canada Strong Fund will be open to individual Canadian investors to finance major projects, including energy, mines, agriculture and technology. Central 1 Credit Union chief economist Bryan Yu told BC Today host Michelle Eliot that the fund could advance such projects.
